X-TEL Delivers GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 MHz Drive Test Solutions

LOMBARD, IL. – October 17, 2003 – X-TEL Communications, Inc., a leading provider of engineering test systems and services for the wireless industry, announced the commercial availability of its GSM/GPRS/EDGE drive test systems. X-TEL’s system integrates the Nokia 6200/6220 test mobiles, which are two of the first EDGE compatible mobile phones. X-TEL’s GSM scanner with BSIC demodulation, available for 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz bands, provides scanning capabilities to complement the test mobile. X-TEL’s solution includes dedicated MCS graphical and tabular displays to assist in verifying EDGE data throughput and performance. These testing devices are fully supported by X-TEL’s advanced processing tool Rush Street to provide engineers a complete solution. X-TEL now supports more than 27 test mobiles and scanners across AMPS, TDMA, GSM/GPRS/EDGE, CDMA and iDEN technologies.

"X-TEL’s modular platform provides an easy upgrade path for our customers to add EDGE testing capabilities to their existing systems," said James Richie, President, X-TEL Communications. "Operators now have the capability to test and verify voice, GPRS and EDGE data networks simultaneously.” X-TEL’s EDGE solution will be used by major operators around the world to test and troubleshoot data networks. “Having a test solution ready as networks rollout is critical for our customers. Engineering teams can now validate EDGE throughput and performance for 3G services before commercial networks launch,” says Richie.

X-TEL’s Rush Street analysis software simultaneous plots uplink and downlink EDGE throughput versus GPRS throughput versus signal level and interference. Using integrated troubleshooting tools, engineers can isolate problem areas and systematically analyze each event of the GPRS or EDGE data session. Rush Street increases productivity by integrating real time alerts with post processing analysis routines. “Rush Street decreases the time spent troubleshooting anomalies and ultimately increases the quality of the network,” said Richie.
