X-TEL Launches Voice
Quality MOS Tool Based on ITU Standard PESQ
LOMBARD, IL. – November
9, 2004 – X-TEL Communications, Inc., a leading
provider of engineering test systems and services for the wireless
industry, announced the release of XQi, X TEL’s voice quality
evaluation tool based on the International Telecommunications
Union (ITU) specification P.862 PESQ. Perceived Evaluation of
Speech Quality (PESQ) is the latest approved specification for
evaluating the quality of voice over wireless phone calls. PESQ
is a true international standard unlike other proprietary voice
quality measurements that compare themselves to the PESQ accuracy.
All X-TEL Xi systems can be upgraded to include these voice quality
metrics. The unique X-TEL platform gives wireless operators the
ability to test voice quality every day side by side with traditional
metrics such as RSSI, Ec/Io, RxQual, BLER, etc. XQi fully supports
single and multiple phone configurations for testing GSM and UMTS
networks.
"Subscribers evaluate the wireless operators every day based on the quality of voice calls. Hence, voice quality should be measured on every test call, not just on a quarterly basis during system benchmarking exercises. XQi is the first tool that enables operators to test each and every day with their existing drive test systems," said James Richie, CEO, X-TEL Communications, Inc. XQi's portable configuration enables each field engineer to receive immediate feedback on perceived network quality while they optimize network performance. Automatic reports may be easily distributed to others within the organization via HTML. "XQi allows the operators to view the network from their subscribers' perspective on a daily basis," says Richie.
